Installing OpenSUSE on Toshiba Portege 3440CT

I am trying to install from CD-ROM. Installation program loads from CD1.

    I pick "Installation" from menu.

Installation loads kernel ok I think (a few minutes of blue splash screen while HD whirs and clicks) then a red box message:

"Could not find openSUSE Installation CD. Activating manusl setup program".

ALthough I don't know much about manual installation I have gone into this program and loaded the Intel i82365 PCMCIA kernel module. This loads successfully, dragging severl other modules in withit (auto dependency management I assume). When the module loader asks for paramters I press Return. As the module loads the CD-ROM drive comes alive.

I now run "Start installation or (sic) system". "Start Installation or Update". "Make Sure that CD1 is in your drive", and immediatley I get "Unable to mount the CD-ROM".

System Information shows me a hard disk but no CD-ROM.

Any thoughts on what I can try?

    Thank you for your help.

May me a bad CD. This is fairly common especially if you downloaded it. Did you do a md5checksum?

    Have you checked here first?

    That Wasn't It

Thanks so much for your message. At your suggestion I verified the iso files against the checksums on the download site. They were ok so I guess there is some other problem.
