Did you do an md5checksum? The disk may be bad.

*sigh* it appears ive deleted my original iso file, and to download it again would take forever.
can i run md5deep somehow using the burned DVD to extract the hash?

I had the same problem too, 2 days ago.
That issue is 99% related to a corrupted file which has a mismatched MD5 checksum.
Assuming that's the case, you'll have to download it all over again anyway, so what's the difference?
take it easy!
Good luck!

no, it was a bad iso file that i burned. i dled it again and did an MD5 checksum and then burned it. everything is ok now but after i rebooted after a sucessful install my kde failed.
i needed to install my ATi driver but now im stuck to using a terminal (text-mode) and i cant find which device is my USB drive. when i say "ls /dev"
i get about 50 hits, and i cant determine which one is my usb so i cant mount it properly.
does anyone know how i can fix this problem?
i need to get back to a graphical environment so i cant find my usb drive.
i tried the repair option on my openSUSE DVD but everything was fine save a smtp server and some other minuscule things.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could try:
as root
run
sax2
this should allow you to set up your graphics.
run
init 5
this should startup your GUI

thanks, ill try that and get back to you.
next time i wont forget to install my drivers
EDIT=
i try using the 'locate' command but it keeps telling me that it is an invalid command and that it doesn't exist, why?

You should not need to install drivers to get a basic GUI. It is for hardware 3D acceleration only. You should not need a special driver to see a basic desktop. You do need them for a fancy one like XGL or 3D games but you should get a desktop with the default OSS one.

yes perhaps, but i tried playing a 2D motocross game and it was lagging immensely, i was perhaps getting 1 or 2 fps at the max. ill install the linux version of my card's driver and ill be on my way (as soon as i get kde back up that is
)
EDIT=
okay, ive tried ur method and the sax2 configuration is fine, it was set just like i left it after installation. only thing is that when sax2 started up it told me i had not configuration for my X-Server. now i have no idea how to configure this. anyways, after sax2 finished i typed 'init 5' and got no reply. i tried it two more times but nothing happened. then i tried to start kde and got these messages.

any idea how to fix this? thanks again
