    Random Freezing while installing suse

I bought the box openSuse 10.2 recently. I have tried to install it >40 times with safe mode, text display or different resolutions, no acpi, with gnome or the basic text interface. Here is the problem: everytime I try to install it freezes at a random spot. It has frozen on me during the first few seconds after pressing "safe mode installation", when I choose my configuration before actual installation, and when it is actually installing everything. Once I managed to install everything with just the minimal text interface all the way. I was stupid and wanted gnome gui so I tried to install again and it froze. no one package or process makes it freeze apparently.

    Here are my specs:
    asus m2n-e motherboard
    amd 64x2 3800
    2gb corsair 800 ram
    seagate 80gb hardrive
    don't know what cd-drive i have
(if you need more info ask!)

I think it could be my corsair ram so i will test it. Is this sensible guess? What could this problem be caused by?

    opensuse

I suppose that you are using a 64bit distribution of opensuse!!!
if not you'll have such problems.
and if yes,try to pass a command in your boot installation menu
    kernel-smp.

    hope this help

    64 bit

I checked the website (http://www.novell.com/products/opensuse/64bit.html) and it said that openSuse 10.2 supports 64bit (and I could only find one version to buy so I assume that my version is 64bit). As a side note, I ran the memory test last night and my system passed.

    OpenSuse 10.2

Sorry just one question, your are installing from CDs or DVD?
the CD contains only 32 bit,and the DVD should be dual layer on side 32 bit and the second 64 bit.

    hope this help

    update

I tried using the DVD (which was a sata connected DVD burner) suse requested CD so switched to using CDs. I have been using CDs throughout so maybe this is my problem. I'll try and set DVD to primary optical boot to fix this.

As a side note I called tech support and they said my package would support 64bit-maybe they assumed I would use the DVD though.

Also I updated my MBoard (asus m2n-e with update 0602) and suse started saying "family 2" after a bunch of errors. =64bit not 32bit hardware problem?

Thinking along these lines I tried to install suse on an old dell optiplex pentium3 and after two hours of installing at a crawl -due to an incredibly old cd-drive- it froze. Perhaps this was because of the cd-drive.

Thank you for your help. I never would have thought only the DVD was 64bit. I'll be updating soon.
