problems with openoffice install on Suse10

    Hi.
I'm just recovering from a hard drive error where I've installed Suse V10.0 (SUSESLICK).
I've downloaded OpenOfficeOrg (rpm in zipped format) from the OpenOffice.org site.
I unpacked and RPM'ed the application, but did not see an icon where I could start it.
There was a new directory that contained several new RPM's, one of which was called " openoffice.org-suse-menus-2.1-5.noarch.rpm " It installed that too, but received a soft error (one you could bypass). If i try to reinstall that rpm, it says it is already installed.
I still do not see any way of starting OpenOffice.

    Anyone with any ideas?

    Thanks

Since I'm not using Linux right now and since I've never used those rpm's, bear with me .

My guess is that OOo got installed into /opt. Check there for a OOo folder and if you see one, trace your way through for a bin folder. I know OOo Writer is called swriter but as for the others, I have no idea.

Also, I know in Gnome you have to "refresh" the panel sometime to have the icons show up. Try the following if you are using Gnome:
    Code:
    killall -9 gnome-panel
I know Slick doesn't use Gnome but just in case you installed it afterwards.

    Found it!

    Hi Brian,
I looked in the /opt directory and there was an /openoffice directory with a sub directory of "/program" and SWRITER was present. It Started OK.

Thanks again for your quick reply.

No problem. Glad I could help.

Assuming you haven't done so yet, you could always add menu entries using the menu editor. Just a helpful hint

To reinstall the menus rpm, do something like
    Code:
    #rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force openoffice.org-suse-menus-2.1-5.noarch.rpm
Post back if you get any error messages. The last time I used those rpms on Suse 10.x, I didn't have any problems getting the menu entries.
