    10.1 Power Manager Doesn't Refresh

    hi
i'm using suse 10.1, witht the gnome desktop, on my HP nc6320 laptop, but whenever i run linux the power manager will give me accurate information on the bettery/power status at the time of turn on but then never refreshes. this is very ennoying when using my laptop off of the battery, as i do not get any warning when the battery is low or critical. if i am not careful it just runs flat, and turns off (with running the shut down scripts)
    any help/ideas??????
    cheers

    Power management

Do cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info when you plug out the adapter
see the capacity of your battery wait some minutes, and do it again to see if the capacity decrease and inform me about that.

another think try to see the directory /sys/devices/system/cpu/ to see if the kernel enable the second CPU!!!

    hope this help.

    hi
i tryed what you said, with cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info, i actually had to use /proc/acpi/battery/C1B5/info (there was no BAT0 folder), there was also a C1B4 folder but this just said that there wasnt a present battery in the info file, because the laptop can support 2 batteries and this is the directory for that one, i guess. this gave me:
    present: yes
    design capacity: 4486 mAh
    last full capacity: 4486 mAh
    battery technology: rechargeable
    design voltage: 10800 mV
    design capacity warning: 225 mAh
    design capacity low: 45 mAh
    capacity granularity 1: 100 mAh
    capacity granularity 2: 100 mAh
    model number: Primary
    serial number: 00869 2006/11/12
    battery type: LIon
    OEM info: Hewlett-Packard
and it did not change no matter how long i left it (when disconnected from the mains supply)

i also tried the directory for the cpu info and tere was 2 folders a cpu0 and a cpu1, and the sames files and folders where in each, so i guess that there should both be enabled and working fine.

    any ideas????

    Power management don't refresh

As i understood the info of your battery doesn't refresh even when you unplug the power, then it's nothing to do with kpowermanagement.cause this package read the information from the kernel-acpi controller.
it's seems that the smart battery system in your kernel it's not enabled,i don't remember wish version of the kernel comes with SuSE 10.1.
there is a patch to support this but we should recompile the kernel in any case.my proposal to solve this problem it's to use the last stable version of the kernel 2.6.20.(we can use this kernel without destroying the kernel comes with SuSE 10.1) but before i want to know if you want to proceed in this adventure?

    Reply me please

    Kernel 2.6.20

Ok as a first step, download the kernel 2.6.20
extract it into /usr/src/ (using tar -xvf kernel-2.6.20.tar.gz)
now you need to know how to configure the kernel so if you know tell me if not i can send you the file by e-mail and we can won some time.

    hope this help
