32 bit apps in 64 bit openSUSE
Hi,
I'm going to install openSUSE 10.2 on a computer with an AMD Athlon 64. If I install the 64 bit version, will it be able to run 32 bit applications straight off?
Thanks a lot

It should. Otherwise you will need something like Linux32:
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/utils/linux32

Suse 10.3 alpha 1 has been released a few days ago. Quite nice. Haven't run into bugs yet.

32 bit application on 64 bit processor
if you install a 32 bit application on a 64 bit processor you will have a random freezing of your computer(it depends on the application)but in principle you can't.
hope this help

That said unless you have a crying need for the additional address space (ie your going to add more then 4gig to your memory) Install the 32 bit OS. There is really no noticable difference in speed.

32 bit application on 64 bit processor
As i said in principle no,Some 32 bit application won't run in 64 bit mode, they should be adapted to run in 64 bit,as a dummy example you can't use nasm 32 on 64 to compile some stuff (like emulator for Nintendo 64),and some other examples.
of course for the basic Linux application doesn't matter.
