help setting up XGL with ATI in SUSE 10.2

Hi guys, I am new here and I have one main problem. I am a noob to linux, someone recommended SUSE 10.2 so I am trying it right now.
I wanted to run compiz so I tryed getting XGL to work with no luck.

I have followed multiple guides, but so far none of them work.

I heard from a friend of mine, I need special ATI drivers, I got those and tried installing them, and I can't properly install those either.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Use the executable program from the ATI website. The rpm didn't work for me.

    Run this program as root.
    Then run this as root:
    aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf

For configuring Xgl, open Yast, select System
    Select /etc/sysconfig Editor
Select Desktop, then Display Manager, and then
    DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER

    Change that to "Xgl".

    Restart X.
(This worked on one of my other computers using an NVidia card)
