kernel source versions dont match
Ive been trying to install the linux source version via both YAST and SMART. When I search for kernel-souce it indeed says taht I dont have the source install (its notin the /usr/src/ dir either). The version that YAST and SMART wants to donwload does not match the current version I have installed though.
Using unname -r gives: 2.6.16.27-0.6-default
YAST is trying to install 2.6.16.21 though and gives me a dependency problem with the other kernel when I try to install it anyway.
I wasnt about to delete my old kernel and screw everyhting up since I dont really know what Im doing here.
As an aside, Im trying to get FUSE 2.6 running on Suse 10.1 to get write access to an NTFS drive safely. No rpm for 2.6 exists for 10.1 though...arg. I need my source to compile FUSE 2.6.
Anyone have a suggestion to either/both problems?

if you want to install the kernel2.6.16.27-0.6-default source and YaST try to install another,so delete the installation http source from YaST and just install the kernel source from the DVD.
for the Fuse problem got to http://www.ntfs-3g.org/.
hope this help

I think the problem is that there have been some kernel patches applied...so the real source (2.6.16.27-0.6) is not on the DVD. Or am I wrong about that? Do the patches not matter and I can just use my original source?

If the kernel is patched in /usr/src/linux so you don't have in this directory the original version,i don't recommend to delete it but try to uninstall it and install just the one that you have in the DVD probably without YaST go in and type rpm -i --force kernel.......... .
about the ntfs file system, the safest way to write on for me was ntfs-3g(to read doesn't matter) but also i don't prefer the ntfs.

Im a little confused about your response. You dont recommmend deleting the patched kernel but uninstalling it instead? The exact source of your kernel doesnt matter then and I can jsut use the original 10.1 source?
Also, I guess Ill just get everything off the external HDD and reformat it in FAT32. NTFS isnt really necessary...it came pre-formatted.

I mean if you can uninstall the patched kernel from YaST so do it,if not you can delete the /usr/src/kernel.... and install the original one that came in the DVD.
For the fat32 there is a limitation for this filesystem
with fat32 you can't use a hdd in one drive contains more than 32GB and you can't have a file with a max size exceed 2 GB,
hope this help

Ok...that helps. Ill get the older kernel from the DVD.
Ill just format it with Reiser and use YaReG to read it if necessary. I dont use windows much anymore anyway.
Thanks for your help.

Yes very good, this is my case so instead of using windows file system under Linux the other way round should be better.
Cheers.
