    Question problem with vi editor

    In the vi editor ,if press the arrow keys to move up ,down ,left or right , the cursor is not moving rather it prints the alphabets A,B,C,D resp. , the backspace key changes the case of the letter . I even tried with the vim editor , still i am facing the same problem . can anyone tell me what might be the problem is and how it can be avoided.. .I use suse 9.3

    is vim editor behaving same way?

    yes even vim is giving the same problem

    Do the H, J, K and L keys move the cursor left, up, down, etc.? If that works then that will get you by until you replace that keyboard or try another keyboard emulation. Look in xorg.config, Input Device to check on keyboard type such as pc 101, 104..but watch out if you change the pc type because you may end up with no keyboard at all. If do decide change the device type be sure to copy the xorg.conf file in case you need to recover it.
