Can't change beryl settings
I have Beryl and XGL installed on my computer. All of the automatically enabled bits work fine, like the rotating cube and the zoom, but no changes that I make in the Beryl control panel take effect. I have tried enabling numerous effects, but none work. Help!
EDIT:
Now all the games on my system play in a small, boxy window even if they're in full screen mode. Is this anything to do with Beryl?

I think u need something call "pixel shading" inorder for most of the water and other effects to work well. I got it working on my computer but its really biggie, like the cube will always work and so will many of the other options. But water effects seems to work only when it wants too.

The water effects work. You might want to have a look at this. I have been discussing it there. I deleted beryl, and the cube still works. I think that compiz has TAKEN OVER!!!!!!!!!
- 02-26-2007 #4Beryl is sort of a plugin that works with Compiz. Compiz is the Window Manager (like Metacity) and Beryl relies on it... Which explaines why the cube still works after removing Beryl. (cube spinning is a basic Compiz feature)

Try de-activating XGL (Compiz) through the Control Center and start the game again...
Hope this story was helpfull

Thanks a lot flight_118. I am just going to try that. Also, does anyone know a good control panel type thing for compiz?

I've fixed the problem. I scrapped beryl and went with compiz. I installed a package called gnome-compiz-preferences, and that lets me change the settings.
