    Dual Boot problem.

    Hi everybody, i am having trouble dual booting my pc. I have Xp installed on it, and the weird thing is that i had dual boot working before, then i formatted hard drive installed windows on it and now when i try to install suse, it gives me permission error when it trys to partition the hard drive.

    When you installed Windows did you leave some free space for Linux or did you use the entire drive for windows?

    if you mean do i have free space on the hard drive - then yes i do - about 30 gigs, i defraged the hard drive before i started installing it to.

    I wonder if you formatted the entire drive rather than just the windows partition.

    I suggest you download Gparted which is a linux partitioning tool. It comes on a bootable Cd. Here is the link.

    how many partitions did you create for Windows? boot up windows and post partition structure here from its disk management tool.

    the partitioning live cd didnt do much, it crashes after asking for keyboard layout.
    Btw the partitioning error code is 1008.

    Try the latest version of gparted. 0.3.4-0 just came out. If you do get it working then create a linux partition such as ext3 on the free space. Also allocate about 1000 MB (1 GB) for swap. Then you should be able to use ext3 as / (root partition) and swap for swap. If you need more help just ask.
