Smb Printer
I have a small network of four notebooks. 2 of these are suse linux 10 and the otehr two are windwos 2000. I'm running a samba server on one of the systems and i have a printer conected to one of the windows systems. I try to add the printer to the linux system and i get the error message "NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED". Can anyone help me solve this problem? Thank you very much

It's been a long time since I messed with Samba but I recall there were a couple of things that would cause this. Have you set up username and password (smbpasswd -a username) and are they the same on both linux and windows? Have you installed the printer driver for the printer connected to the win 2k pc on the linux pc?

There is no mutual driver that fits both windows and linux. I'm using the correct driver for windows and a driver that will work with that printer. The printer is a HP PSC 1400 series. I'm using the 1300 series driver for the linux system. I'm not sure if i set up the user pass for it. I'm new to samba and its really confusing lol. I'll try that. Thanx for your help.

Yea, that's par for the course with printers. In any event that error you are getting suggests that the smbpasswd stuff is not set up. Samba can be a real pain to set up so keep at it, but it sounds like you're close. I was going to add that you need to be sure that domain name is the same on all the nodes but must be or you would'nt have gotten the error you did.

I've had this problem also but after many trials and errors I found two items that could be an issue: the name of the server the printer was installed on was very slightly changed in Linux. On the XP box the name of the computer was (example)"abc1" but Linux actually saw it as "abc1." For some reason there was a period appended to the computer name, but I had to use the period to get connected.
Additionally, it could be the usercode password. Linux is fussy about caps. So if there are capital letters in the usercode and password, be sure they are transferred across in the printer setup, and obviously if there are not capital letters be sure not to include any. Seems obvious, but as we work through issues sometimes the obvious is the most frustrating.
