Do you get any sound?? ie a startup sound?

Have you configed your card? Yast-Hardware-Sound do you get sound there when you select advance-set levels??

To play mp3's etc you will need additiional stuff.

This is a good place to start http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/254

note this is for 10.1 just substitute 10.2
There is an update for 10.2 but I don't have the link now

    thnks for ur help...

well yes, i do hear a startup sound but only when i logged in as root,
i can't hear even a single bit of sound when logged in as my own user accnt

the error msg is " No volume control gstreamer plugin/devices found".

i think getting the sound at the startup means my speaker is configured properly.

n thanks again for ur help, i do now get the link to the suse 10.2 help from ur link ..

Ok sounds like you have a soundblaster card

Go to Yast - security and users - User managment

then set you user account to be a member of the audio group.
