    Unhappy Authentication via AD

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to SuSE but I've got a good idea what I'm doing (if that makes any sense at all!)

I'm trying to connect to a windows network using SLED 10.1, but I'm not having much luck.

I've tried a few different ways, including using the 'windows domain membership' section in YasT as well as trying to manually configure the conf files as shown on this post...

    http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=18932

Unfortunately I've had little sucess with either method.

However when I enter 'winbind -u' I do get a list of all the members of the AD and I can access the network folders through the file manager.

klist shows I do have a valid ticket on the domain

net ads join -U ... let me join the domain ok too.

It's just when I try to log in as me (Steve McCall) I get refused "Incorrect Username or Password"

Also when I tried the method of editing the .conf files, I sometimes had to enter the password 3 times!!

    Pleas help me!

    Steve

but it deals with peer-peer. Might help to get you started. But I have never done WIndows domain stuff.

Thanks for your reply. I'm using Linux at work at the moment so I'll have to wait until monday to try it. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Cool

Just to let you know, I've fixed this problem.

What I had to do was go into the Login configuration (f10 at the username prompt) and manually add the user to the list in the last tab (DOMAIN\Administrator) etc.

I can now log in fine as DOMAIN\Administrator, but not as DOMAIN\Steve McCall.

I not get a lot of permissions errors...

"The application "gnome-panel" attempted to change an aspect of your configuration that your system administrator or operating system vendor does not allow you to change. Some of the settings you have selected may not take effect, or may not be restored next time you use the application."

How can I give a domain user the correct permissions to start progams?

    Steve
