There is a list of options in personal settings that tells SUSE what mount points to display as icons on the desktop. Im at work and not in front of my SUSE desktop so I cant tell you exactly where the option is. press F2 and type kcontrol. Then click on peripherals. There should be check boxes to tell SUSE what icons to allow on the dekstop, You want to make sure unmounted USB drive and mounted usb drive are checked.

    Hello, scrarfussi,
I do not know about SLED,
Bt under SuSe 10.1 and KDE 3.5 these settings are in
Menu >PersonalSettings>Desktop>Behaviour>[Tab]DeviceIcons. You should check "Show device icons" and choose what to show

I had the wrong tabs in my memory on how to do this. Xaleandr sounds like he has it right.
