    Is it NFS?

I know this is a stupid question to most of you but how or what is the best way to share files between two suse 10.2 systems(besides ftp, which btw works for me in a pinch)? I have my laptop and my main system using a switch. I currently have the firewalls turned off and I started NFS server on one.

Assuming NFS is the way to share files between two Linux systems how do I do it cause I thought i did everything correctly but it doesn't seem to work. In this I am assuming you can set up shares similar as you would in a window workgroup by mounting them. Sorry to use the W word...

I realize i can do a howto search on the internet but i am not yielding anything helpful. Any directions would be much appreciated and please there is not point in treating me like i am being stupid cause i already feel that way.

    thanx!

NFS is great if you want a more-or-less permanent connection between the computers. If you're just moving files across the network on occasion, your best option is to use fish or scp. Another popular solution is Samba, though that's really meant for Windows network interoperability.

Anyway, what steps have you taken for getting nfs to work?

Can you tell us the exact error message you are getting? Did you install nfs-utils already?
