Unhappy internet access without a proxy

    Hi guys,
I went to troubleshoot this network,i realised that the users can't access internet without a proxy server ruuning on the network.I had to install and configure one.If i stop it and configure the client browsers to access the internet directly, they can't.The firewall accepts direct access to the internet,so it cannot be the firewall because even when i disable the firewall, things still don't work.I don't know who configured the network before, but i don't understand how it was done.Has someone ever seen such a scenario before? If yes,how is it done.

Hey buddy? could you elaborate further on your problem. Have you tried looking at the internet explorer setting on the client computers. I'm thinking they have been configured to access http through a certain proxy.

By the way i'm also from kampala. Cheers mate.

Hi k_amisi,nice to know you're from Kampala too.
My prob exactly is that, there is this network setup which uses a linux box as a router/gw.The clients should be able to access web without neccessarily going through a proxy. But yet, when i tell the client browsers to go directly without squid, the can't.Though squid is not in transparent mode. That is what i don't understand.

The problem could be that the internet gateway, has been configured in a -way that only a certain host can access the internet, that wuld be the only logical explanation.

Try looking at the router ACLs. Of particular interest is the line for http, that is if it has been defined.
