Suse 10.2 installs error free, no operating system detected

Install went without a hitch on a completely blank hard drive, but after the install, when it attempts to boot to the new OS, the computer doesn't detect that there is an operating system.

This is an Presario SR1550NX, AMD Athlon 64, SATA drive that had been running XP perfectly well.

I have installed from the 10.2 DVD as well as CDs.

    Any thoughts?

No errors whatsoever during the install, it just immediately goes to "No operating system" when i try to boot, no floppies, no cds in the drives.

I should add that i have changed the boot order to boot from the HD first, as well...no joy.

Did you install a bootloader to the MBR?

I threatened to install fedora instead of Suse and the last installation took. I am new to linux if it wasn't obvious.

I had attempted to install a bootloader but got stuck.

I would have deleted my original post but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Thank you for replying, and i hope that any subsequent posts by me will be more intelligent.
