A bit of culture-shock here...
What have I missed? I have just installed SUSE 10.2 with Gnome (my first time for yonks with a Gnome front end) and can't find any list of apps! This is not, surely, a new low in user-friendliness is it? I can't find one under any mouse buttons or 'taskbar' headings. I first hit 'Computer' and found 'Search' and 'Recent documents' and only after much clicking and cursing found 'Favorite Applications' which hid 'More applications' and they seemed to all be there. Is this it? Can I map the 'Application browser' onto the right, middle or a supplementary button (my mouse has 2 spare buttons)?
I must revisit the Gnome/KDE flame-wars to read what the good points of Gnome are! After xcfe and KDE I am wondering...

Yes, SuSE's Gnome is modded and includes a different menu, you will need to use it for a while until you start to get comfortable with it and the programs you use populate favorite application.
Normal GNOME uses three menus on the top of the desktop.Put your hand in an oven for a minute and it will be like an hour, sit beside a beautiful woman for an hour and it will be like a minute, that is relativity. --Albert Einstein

Thanks, yes they have changed it. I can't say I like it, right now, though.
Can anyone point me to a howto re mapping a mouse button to the 'application launcher'?

I can't offer any help with the mouse question.
As to the application menu, there are three choices of menus in SUSE 10.2 Gnome. Sounds like you have the Main Menu application launcher on your desktop panel (taskbar). It can be removed from panel and replaced with either the menu bar or the traditional main menu. Either of the later two might be more to your liking.
A right click on the menu launcher and a right click on a free spot on the panel will open the appropriate menus to make changes.

Many thanks, GeezerX! That did what I wanted. It all took too long for me to find out - I don't know whether to be pissed off that it was so non-obvious or chastened that it took me so long to not find something in such a much-touted 'user-friendly' desktop manager without outside help! And I've been around MS machines since the 1980s...
Thanks again.
