    How to dissable DHCP in suse 10.2

    Hi..
    I have installed suse10.2 and its great OS... but i am not able to configure internet connection as i am new to linux...

    i have a broad band connection of 512kbps and have static IP, gateway, Primary and Secondary DNS .... how to configure all these.......

    even though i have disabled DHCP the ip is automatically generating......so how to go about it.......Please give me the steps which will be easy to do the things....

    not sure if this will help, but try:
    Code:
    chkconfig dhcpd off
    and reboot computer

    Edit: then in Yast configure your networking

    YAST > Network Devices > Network Card >User Controlled with Network Manager

    then Edit your card with the Static config.

    ya..
    even tough i am clicked static, the ip is configuring by itself...
    and for Primary and Secondary DNS, i have entered values in Name Server 1 and Name Server 2 ... is that right

    but i am not able to connect to net only b'cos DHCP is not yet dissabled .......

    Please let me know........I have to start my project

    and this is giving me a lot of problem....i am trying a lot of options and i installed suse10.2 3times to check whether setting is correct

    , yes, those are the dns ip's which you are provided by your service provider.

    but i am not able to connect to net only b'cos DHCP is not yet dissabled .......
    Are you using a router? If so, is that set up for static ip's?

    Hi rong..


    i have a broad band connection and am connected through modem, i dont have router...

    i have configured it as static and have given the ip's which service provider has given even tough i am not able to access the net

    wat's the problem

    I don't know. Are you sure your isp is not using dhcp?

    ya...

    i have disabled dhcp.... through the traditional method of ifup..

    i have made it static..

    i am also not able to ping to my server as well
    so how can i connect to net
