What type of info are you looking for? Installation, troubleshooting or maintenance? Are you going to use SLES to do your installation? A good place to start looking for step by step instructions and appnotes is http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/.

    edir tools

Okay....There are a few tools that you need to read up on and there a few common tasks used for monitoring edir.

The documentation for edir 8.8 does have step by step instructions on how to perform common edir maintenance and monitoring tasks. eg dsrepair, dstrace. etc. If you download the edir 8.8pdf there is also an edir troubleshooting section which highlights common edir problems and how to solve them.

The tools required to administer edir are Console1, iManager and DHost....(I found iManager to be the most powerful)...

These tools have most of the administration features built in. I suggest you set up a vm with edir and start playing with these tools and I am certain that you will grasp what each ones capabilities are fairly swiftly.

These tools also come with their own set of documentation....(naturally)....But I think the key here is to learn about these tools and administration and monitoring becomes a walk in the park!

What version of edirectory are you running and on what platform? Is it SLES or Netware?

Try using the client from http://download.novell.com/Download?...d=2JyMn7sWP_Q~ you may need a novell id, though.

    Thanks Dear for reply.
I am using SLES 10(eDirectory Server), and SLES 10, as a client.
Ok, I am trying to understand the documentation.

    novell client library issues

I have tested the client from novell and I also get some library dependency issues. I will try and resolve these and get back to you once I get the client to work. The library that it moans about is libbfd-2.16.91.0.5.so. There is a newer version of this library with SLES 10.

Check out the following site...http://dev-loki.blogspot.com/2006/12...nsuse-102.html. I believe that this guru has located the cause of your problem. I will test his solution and let you know if it works.

Many thanks Dear ch@meleon.. I hav intalled the Novell Client. ... download the client, from url ... u gave me... thanks once again...

Ok, here another issue... after installing Novell Client on the dekstop(sles 10), i first have login on the local machine(local account or /etc/passwd), then using Novell Client, i logs in the eDirectory tree.
Since I have to replace MS Active Dir, with eDir 8.8, I am learning eDir 8.8.
Prblm/issue here is that, using Active Dir, the user only have the single userid/passwd... but in eDir(might b i m wrong), user have two accounts, one is local(to login on the pc/desktop), then second account, for eDir, he/she provides using Novell Client.. and this is a very burden on Admin, because he has to create an ordinary account(local) on each desktop(I have 71 users, and 110 desktop/client machines).

1, is it possible that admin only creates a single accont, on eDir server, and using that account user logs in the machine, and in the eDir Tree also... as in MS AD.

Second prblm(what I face) is that, Novell Client asks, user to provide the Tree name, his/her context, and the server name/ip.... and again its a reall burden on user, so
2, is it possible user just provide his name/passwd... but not the other required info(server name, context, tree name)

    Regards

Thanks Dear ch@meleon, I hav sucesfuly installed the novell-client on sles 10... thanks for help.
Now I hav some more issues.

1, what i noticed, is that, first user have to login on the machine, using local account(/etc/passwd), then using novell-client he/she logs on the eDirectory tree....and this is a burden.. burden for me and users as well.... because I have to create the local accounts on each machine so that user can login on the machine, and another account on eDir server.... likewise users also have to remember both accounts(userid/passwd).
Is it not possible, that I just create an account for users on eDir server, and using tht acct, users can logon on their machines... and on the eDir tree... as in MS AD.

2, using novell-client, user not just provide his/her userid/passwd, but also has to provide, server ip/name, context, and tree name.
Is it possible.. that user just provide his her userid/passwd... and not the other info(tree, context, server).... all the other info will be collected by novell-client automatically.

    Thanks n Regards

    Client settings

    Hi needee

According to my understanding of the novell client....the login information, ie your tree and context can be hard coded into your client settings. Will just have to figure out how with SLED...(I don't use the client anymore....check out "man ncpmount")... I am certain there is a way to achieve single sign on with your linux user account using ldap password
    authentication.

However, you must realize that is the purpose of the client and it also provides an extra level of security to your network resources.

With windows to achieve the ability to logon onto your netware network with one user account you had to use zenworks...(novell's system resource management software)....and enable a dynamic user profile policy.

Give me chance will see what I can dig up today.... check out the ffg urls. I think it's got all you are looking for.

    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...a/b499kve.html

(The second option seems to be supported by novell)

    Happy reading and have fun.

    Regards
