    NT4 winbind authentication from OpenSuse

    Hello,

I have OpenSuse 10.2 participating in an NT4 domain in the sense that:

1 - Samba shares work (I can see Xp shares on other machines)
    2 - "wbinfo -u, -g -t " all produce the correct domain info
3 - I can verify my password against the domain controller via the command line with "wbinfo -a mxa1%password and that works
4 - "getent group and passwd" produce the expected (domain) info
5 - my computer joins the domain with no problem

I just can't log in via the KDE gui front end login box!

For example I start another session in parallel from my root account and have a KDE login box, but all I get for a result is "login incorrect" when trying to use my domain username/password and authenticate against the NT4 PDC (no AD unfortunately).

I am ready to give Ubuntu a try as I found a good and recent set of info for that distro and winbind/NT4 authentication, but I'd really like to stick with OpenSuse.

Does anyone have any suggestions or resources they can point me to?

    Sincerely,
    Martin

you need to edit pam modules

here is a how-to for Authentication against Active Directories using winbind for pop3

    http://www.opensourcehowto.org/how-t...-for-pop3.html

But i think you'll need to edit a different pam module, probably the 'login' module.
