SUSE Linux (KDE) Internet Connectivity Issues

    Hi Folks,

I recently installed Linux on my computer with a KDE desktop and everything appears to be working except any connectivity to the Internet.

I partitioned my computer so I could run Windows in one partition and Linux in another partition and that seems to be working fine.

All connectivity is working fine with the Windows partition. From the web to email to irc there appears no problem in Windows. When I reboot and enter into Linux KDE there is no connection from emails to the browser to ftp.

I putzed around in YAST but whatever combination I try fails to open up an internet connection.

I run three computers on a router from comcast cable. I've tried setting it up with and without the router and it makes no difference.

    What am I missing?

Any help would be most appreciated!

    Joe

    additional issue

I should also mention then when I installed the Suse Linux starter kit, I was given the choice to use either GNOME or KDE as a desktop. I tried each one and it made not difference--there was still no connectivity.

Currently I use broadband cable on a router then connect into the Windows OS based partition. This Windows OS works fine and this is the OS I am using right now to post this reply. However, if I switch to Linux OS there is no connectivity for any internet services.

The other thing I should mention is that the Linux OS does detect my home network. It will connect to the LAN but not to the internet.

    Hope that helps,

Have a read of this walk through, particularly Pics 4,5,6. The howto was constructed in similar the environment you have, except I'm KDE. It contains more than you need at the moment, so just focus on the non-Samba stuff if your problem is internet.
