SUSE 10.2 X-Server will not start
Hello,
I'm new to SUSE 10.2 so I'm a noob, but my suse 10.2 was running fine and I started it a couple of times and it worked fine (I have a dual boot with windows), the last time I tried it wouldn't load the X-server and gave me an error message (I will write that below), and went to a black and white login screen, where I wasn't able to login. Also before this error happened I was in Sax2 trying to enable 3D acceleration, and I tried to install a Nvidia GL driver. Any help would be appreciated, I can reinstall it because I don't have any files on it yet, I was just wondering if there was a way to prevent this from happening.
Error: (It also gives me a list of version #s I can post them if you want)
X-server is now disabled, restart when GDM is correctly configured.
-Thanks

it sounds like something has gone wrong with the nvidia driver installation - to get your screen back:-
log-on as root
add root password
type
init 3
then type
sax2
to reset your screen
then type
init 5

this could also be a hardware issue. like the inside of your pc is over heating. after just running the hardware for an hour our two just shut the computer down and check the temperature of your computer. if there hot GET SOME FANS. dont worry though this wont add hardly anthing to you elctric bill. <it sound funny i know but some people are worried>.
hope this solves the probem
this is strange though ive never come across this before

dth1,
I just tried that, it gave me the same error report, though i'm not sure if i was really logged in as root because i couldn't access the configuration file that sax told me to look at (/var/log/SaX.log)

david486038,
I will try that, but I have been running windows on this computer for a very long time and I haven't had overheating problems.

when adding new hardware always try to get a extra fan. although im not saying that you should get a new fan for every component inside your computer cause that is just stupid, but you might find that occationally when running windows you will find that your computer restarts because of over heating and it certainly doesnt tell you that.
