    audio problem

first i need to say that i am new to linux, using it only 3 days now
i got few problems with suse 10.2

I have instaled new ati graphic drivers step by step from the how to manual from http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_Driver
but when i need to start runlevel 3 and then return to lvl 5 no gui is loaded
i typed startx and kde and it lists some bulls**t saying that xserver could not connect or not found or something like that i dont remember now
so i grabed install cd's and run installation proces (i was intending to do a reinstall but...) and i found update option
atm i think it would be a good idea, run update from original cd's and dont need to reinstall, and it worked
    KDE is back!
but now i have a problem with sound.
it worked before all of this
so i deleted sound card and configured it again - didnt worked
i have checked if something is turned off, muted or something - all fine
i know that sound work, cuz there is a noise when sys is starting up
    so the problems are
    1.cant install ati driver
2.kde not starting when i get back to runlevel 5
3.and the last but most important i dont have sound

i almost forgot, it is onboard sound card

    regards

    Hi there,

    1. For your ATI problem, have you made a RPM or used the direct installer? Common problems are: you need kernel-source, kernel-syms, and linux-kernel-headers, plus everying else on that list.
    2. KDE.. you shouldn't have to manually start runlevel 5. Are you doing that after installing the ATI driver? If so, there shouldn't be a problem. Try doing a restart. (Init 6 or just reboot from console)

And finally, 3. What KIND of card do you have? Most Intel cards are well supported, and others are too, but have you checked alsamixer and the YaST mixer?
