    X window manager won't load...aka I killed my GUI

So, i was trying to install an ATI driver today in an attempt to run Beryl. (This is the "Walkthrough" i was using for Beryl and This was the one for installing the ATI Driver).

My system is as follows (if it matters):
    CPU: AMD Athalon 64 2800+
GFX: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 128 MB
    anything else is inconsequential really.

The X Manager says that it can't find fglrx

This is how I installed the Driver:
    Code:

    # rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep fglrx)
    # sh ati-driver-installer-8.34.8-x86.x86_64.run --listpkg
    # sh ati*.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE102-IA32
    # init 3
    # cd /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i386
    # rpm -Uvh fgl*.rpm
    # ldconfig
    # aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
    # sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx
Ideas on how I could get my GUI back? (I was using GNOME)

This sounds dumb but just trying putting "fglrx" into xorg.conf...where is says "driver" "vesa"

worht a shot and try running sax2 alone and see what that does considering you saved the error'd verson of sax. Maybe even trying to uninstall and re-install. And checking to make sure the OS is 32-bit..which i think it is n e ways.

I'm a newbie but this is how i would troubleshoot, or you could try using KDE to log-in but then you would have to change the boot-up gui in terminal mode...haha good luck .

    But really, good luck.

Well, i have a GUI now. YAY and i have an (almost) fully functional Beryl. YAY!. Its just that with the water effects, i like the mouse trail one. But no matter what I do, <alt>, <ctrl>, <super>, and <shift> all make the window ripples (ripples around the whole window) even with the window ripple turned off and no shortcuts mapped to it. This is not a big issue but one I cant seem to find anything on.
