Partition formatted and damaged
Hello everyone.
I have tried to install TrixBox on an empty space on my system, but it decided to format everything without a warn.I expected it would say so before doing it.
Anyway,I stopped the process like 3-5 seconds after formatting on / partition started, but it was already too late.I rebooted, inserted the SUSE DVD and run repair.Unfortunately I used only automatic, which I think saw no linux or something like that.Later I found that Expert repair had a part for reapiring partition table, which was the one lost.
I went on to rescue mode, which I think was the big mistake, but not pretty sure.It showed me SOME unix directories, certainly not my directories, and I thought they were half-deleted old ones.
I then used Knoppix, which saw almost nothing of the old stuff.Back then I didn't know about gpart and testdisk. The computer used to have Windows XP (hey, not pretty safe with Wine yet,and I would like to play some games every now and then) and SUSE on it,plus a logical partition for backup, actually not pretty much used yet.The files I need to recover are on SUSE.
I ran gpart on Helix(based on Knoppix) which saw the original partitions prettu well, and found some read errors on the later part. gpart -W not working finally.
I then went to testdisk, saw my old partitions marked D (deleted), and used search on the good partition (with SUSE and my files on it),searched everything, showed me a new Reiserfs on my good one,and everything from Windows XP(thank you very much, not interested).I think the Reiserfs was from the Rescue system of SUSE.(I also used RIP Linux, based on Slackware,on which I ran gpart originally,I hoped it wasn't the bad one,it was a live-CD and there I saw the read-errors for the first time).
Anyway, now I have a Reiserfs on my beloved, unseen files (mainly books ,that is .pdf and .chm files, together with a few text files) that has directories with some irrelevant dates like Aug 1969 or May 2020,which I do not know what are there for.My files unseen by testdisk.
Does anyone know how I could go below this Reiserfs to take my files??
(I have already read another posting almost same, about using a Foremost program, which I have just downloaded and going to use soon.Any ideas beyond that would be EXTREMELY
appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!
