considering move to linux from windows need help!!!
hello
ive recently installed suse 10.2 on my windows xp system. everything is up and running great. i have to admit as excited as i am to learn this new system and get out out of the windows prison im a little overwhelmed. there are so many differences that i spent years getting used to with windows. i believe i have more software installed then i really need. i really want to start out with the most basic of funtion. internet. music , email and get rid of the things i really dont need yet. how can i tweak things to make them a little more simple. there are so many extra things that were installed with the installation and i dont know whats what. any good tutorials out there for tweaking or cleaning things up. also i would like to transfer my music library over. all my music files are on a separate ntfs partition. tried burning them to disk but when i opened them in suse the files were full of thumbnails and most of them did not play. im very new and trying very hard not to get discouraged i really want to learn this. also is there any method to learning the command line or is it basically just memorizing commands. i can navigate through the file system ok, but thats about it. any help greatly appreciated. this forum may save me from running back to windows with tail between legs!!!!! thanks in advance

Ubuntu is good because it really doesn't install that much. Last time I used SuSE was a long time ago and it installed millions of applications.

welcome to the linux world
I don't think that basic SuSE installation includes so much applications. Anyway you can remove packages using YaST (applications->System->System Administration). Linux should have recognized and mounted the partition, therefore you can use your mp3's directly from the ntfs partition, or copy them to your /home folder. Also http://www.google.com/linux is a really good friend, you will find almost anything you need (for the commands just type linux commands)
If you got any question post
