    Partition question

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to Linux, I've used Ubuntu for a short time period, and SuSE 9 at my university... However, I'm not a total newbie.

My HDD has three NTFS partitions. Yeah, I use W****ws XP.
I want to install SuSE 10.2, on the third partition. So, what's the problem? As I said, it's a NTSF, and as I know, the SuSE 10.2 installer can format the partition to fit on itself. I checked out the options in the SuSE 10.2 installer, and it sugessted me to delete ALL the NTSF partition and to create new.

There's a custom option where (probably) can format the thrid NTSF partition into a Linux partition. Should I choose this, or do what? Please help me.

    Thanx,
    Sinne

Delete the partition. by default Suse will create 3 partitions swap, root, home Note you need at least two. swap and root

    Thanks.
Is a deletion necessery? I mean, first should I delete it, and the format it in a Linux file system? I thought of formating over the NTFS. Is there any big difference between this? Can I screw some things up doing this?

It is best to totaly remove the parition. This leaves x amount of free space on the drive which Linux can then use to create its partitions. The default is to create 3 partitions for Suse you need a min of 2. It is best with 3 so you can re do the root (/)without touching home (/home) which contains your user settings and data. Swap is a small partition normally twice the size of your memory. I'd allow 10-20 gig for Linux if you are going to do anything serious with it.
