These are packages you must install before you install Totem.

So you need to either install these manualy or you can much easer use a repository an let Yast sort out the dependecies.

You did not say which version of Suse???

    for 10.1

    for 10.2

hi. i had a similair problem.
the way i got around it is , everything that fails due to dependency error, you have to install the bit thats missing, go to packman site, they are all there.
if you get 4 dependency errors, you need to install 4 files. but 1 or 2 of those files might have the same error. so u would have to do the same for them.

instal through Yast - Software - Software Managment. It will eleminate the problems you are haveing trying to install manually. Follow the instruction on the site I referenced above for 10.1

The numbers are for different versions of the Intel instruction set. All should be ok on any modern processor. The only thing you need to watch for is 32 bit and 64 bit versions. If you have instaled 32 bit Linux then use any of the numbered files you mentioned. If you installed 64 bit you should install the 64bit versions.

Or if you don't get on with YaST, try using: Smart Package Manager

In my pursuit to connect my Nokia 6630 to openSuse 10.2.. I downloaded packages from rpm.pbone.net containing the below mentioned in RED and then went on installing each RPM one by one (because being newbie, I know no other way to install).. halfway I am now not able to install any rpm

when I click on any rpm it launches asking for root password.. then for hours nothing happens.. if I try to install any rpm now it launches YAST and ends with Massage that package management is busy reading another package.. and this situation remains till I reboot..

    PLZ HELP!!!!

I have the same problem in 10.2. I have found that yast will act funny ( non responsive ) if I try to install more than one thing at a time. By that I mean, if I try to open yast twice. I also found that if I turn off ZEN updater, my computer and yast run better. If you have alot of repositories in yast and they are set to refresh, you will be waiting along time just to get into yast. I only refresh once, when I first start loading new software, then shut the refresh off.

If you want to download an rpm, lets say to your desktop, and install it; you can still use yast. Just right click the rpm and select "actions" and then " install with yast". It doesn't get much easier than that.

If you need repositories just google " hacking opensuse 10.2"
    or

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Tom..

So far, I have been using the method you suggested to install by clicking or right clicking the RPM.. because I could not do it thru configure-make file way..

    Worst is now..

    1. ZMD does not start at boot and I have to start it
    2. no rpm is installed by these methods
    3. so I cannot install a thing and don't know where am I struck
    4. For past 3 days I have been trying to figure what wrong and what to do?

In Yast-System services make sure that Novell-ZMD is enabled.
