    Question Need help installing router

I've got a working install of Suse 9.3. I had a working pppoe internet connection, but just bought a Linksys wrt54gl router, and it was not recognized by Suse upon booting up. I dual-boot WinXP (which is how I am writing this!)

I'm not all that knowledgable about Linux, but I can follow directions Could someone help me?

I just installed Suse 10.2 and the same thing happened to me, but then I looked in Sys tray and I saw a little wheel rotating; I clicked on it and it showed the card controllers. I selected the appropiate one and voilá, Suse configured itself and I had acces to Internet. I don't know if it will help. I hope so!

I think Suse 10.2 probably has better hardware support than 9.3. I think the little wheel rotating is the hardware recognizing? In any case, it isn't there for me. I think I will have to manually configure my router, and I don't know how to do that.
    But thanks anyway!

it shouldn't be a problem with your router - just go into yast and make your that your network card is set up OK. It should show dchp.

Didn't work. I created another network card selection with dchp, and told kinternet to use it. It didn't connect.

I think I need more detailed directions, if anyone would care to give them.

    Router

Had you ever configured your router before? How do you receive your signal? DSL, cable? You can configure your router with Firefox; follow the instructions in your manual. After that the most important thing is that Suse recognize the controller of your card.

I have never been able to configure the router in Linux; it is brand new. I was able to configure it in WinXP very easily. My signal is delivered via DSL with pppoe. When I open a browser (Firefox) window and type in 192.168.1.1 I don't get a window asking for my password like I did in WinXP.
Suse had a working dsl connection previously, so I know my card is configured. But Suse doesn't "see" the router.

Why don't you disconnet your router and go with DSL first? See if Suse 'sees' your card; if that happens, establish a connection with Network Manager, make sure your controller is also recognized and configured. Then try the Internet; if you have it, install your router again. Hope it helps! ( I'm asuming you have a modem between the signal and the router).

    Thanks for the reply Pumalite...
I DO have a working connection. DSL does work. It worked fine before I installed the router.
The point of my question is that I am trying install the router now, so I can "eventually" have wireless.
I know that my dsl connection works, my modem works, my installation of Suse works... but the new item is the router.
All I'm supposed to do (according to the manual) is plug it in, and open a browser, and type in the above numbers. But THAT is what is not working: I do not get a window to proceed as I should.

You may have to adjust the IP address for the new sub-net you now are on. Did you re-initialize the network card in Yast?
