openSUSE 10.2 on a Laptop - A Couple Configuration Questions
I am a newbie in the world of Linux and have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I installed the retail boxed version of openSUSE 10.2 on my Dell laptop. My system's specs are: Dell Latitude C640, 1.8Ghz Intel P4M, 1GB RAM, 60GB hard drive (partitioned 30GB for openSUSE and 30GB for MS Windows).
Overall, the installation went fine and everything seems to be working correctly.
So here's my questions:
1 - Every time I boot openSUSE and the K desktop gets up and running, within the first 2-3 minutes my laptop's cooling fan kicks into very high speed and I can feel the heat (more than normal) coming out of the vent on the side of the case. Then, 2-3 minutes later the fan goes back to running at what I would consider more of a "normal" speed. Is there a setting I missed when I installed openSUSE that can help me better control the temperature of my hardware and therefore be able to keep the fan from going through this high speed cycle each time?
2 - I installed openSUSE on my laptop when it was undocked. Now if I dock the system and then boot to openSUSE, it has difficulty recognizing my desktop monitor instead of the laptop display. Is there a setting I missed when I installed openSUSE on this also? I would like to be able to go back and forth using the operating system when my laptop is both docked and undocked without having to manually change display settings each time if possible.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
