Question 3 Users - But 1 Without Sound..., No sound for specifik user

    Hi to you all.

First let me point out, that my hardware is working Ok.
Root and User2 has all the sound they want.
But User1 has no sound at all.
KMix is active and I have tried moving the sliders om everything, with no result.
Have added the user to group Audio, with no result.
In Yast, hardware I have removed and installed the soundcard (onboard Asus K8V SEDX) and autoconfigured it, but no luck (done the same for User2, and the sound stil works for that user).

    Od thing is:
When I change anything... It continues to try and start my soundsystem, again and again and again. At it keeps taking longer and longer time...
Tried to let it run for 30 minutes, with no change in behavier for that matter.

Tried ading/removing/ading user1 to Group Audio, with restarting inbetween.

Removed KMix and reinstalled it. Nothing has worked.

I think that the problem somehow relates to the fact that the system keeps on trying to start my soundsystem, whenever I try to change anything.
Does it try to read/write to something that it can't???

    Kind regards to you all.

I have the same problem with the KDE sound stuff. But it really is not needed.

For the user without sound open a console and type

    ps -A | grep kdesktop.

see if you have mutiples of kdesktop running for that user. I had a problem like that. Never did run down the reason I just created a new user and all as been well since (Knock wood).

Try creating a third user and see if he has sound.

Also be sure that you log out as user 1 before trying user x. Some apps can lock up the sound.

Also are your running 64 bit or 32 bit OS?

    Veeery Strange, but Superbt!!!

    Well Gogalthorp!
    Yuo are the savier!!!
    This is what happened:
    Logged in as my User1
ps -A | grep kdesktop gave an output somthing like 4222? 00:00:00 kdesktop.
I couldnt really get anything out of that, so I wanted to try creating a new user (still logged in as User1). Starting Yast, that prompts me for root password. Creating a new User3 - standard user, not changing anything!
Logging out, logging in as User3. NO SOUND!
Logging out, and for some reason logging in as root (root has sound) and creating a User4 (I honestly dont know why. Just wanted to try it...). Logging out, and logging in as User4.
    Miracle: SOUND!!!
Logging out and logging in as User1, to get to my mail and tell you what happened.
    Another Miracle: SOUND!!!
    All Users now has sound.

    I have no idea why.
All I know is that Im HAPPY

Whitout your inspiration to create a new user, I could have been stuck with the problem for long time, so THANKS!!!

Have you any idea what happened to my system???

    BTW its 32 bit.

Glad to help by pushing in the right direction.

Sometimes you just need to pound it into submission
