Nvidia GeForce 7600 Go and SuSe 9.3
Hi
I've been trauling the internet for days now looking for video drivers that will work with my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 1526 laptop. has anyone had a similar problem or can they point me to drivers that work. I've been on the FS website and they give instructions to use YOU which i've followed to the letter but it's still not working.
Thanks

yes. It's there where they tell me to use "YOU" and select "Install Nvidia drivers" but after I've done that nothing happens

What browser are you using? Do you have scripting turned off?
here is a direct link (I'm assuming that you are running 32bit Suse)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-9755.html
read the "suse how to"
Use the down load method rather then the Yast method.

Thanks very much for the link gogalthorp. On the laptop Firefox 2.0.0.3 I think I've done this before and it said it was for a 32 bit system and mine is a 64. It's got a Intel Core2 Duo processor in it.
I'm not with my laptop at the moment to try out the file from your link. But incase it doesn't work I don't suppose you have a link for the 64bit version do you?
Thanks again

The question is which version of Suse did you install?? 32 or 64 bit. You can install 32 bit on a 64 bit processor You need the version for the OS not the processor
here is the 64 bit link.

gogalthorp... you are the man

Thanks for that link. This whole "using Linux" is pretty new to me. The extent of my knowledge is setting up a LAMP system. Could you tell me how I find out, because on my DVD it says 32 + 64 bit system. Which I didn't realise. There was no question when I did the installation as to what version I wanted.
Thanks again.

go to My Computer icon it will tell you what kernel is running If it is 64 bit it will say so if not I beleive that it says nothing about the bits.
It is best to run 32 bit because you can run into strange 32/64 bit problems with some things. Like Firefox is 32 bit so 64 bit drivers don't work. Also even though you can get a 64 bit version of FF then commen drivers skins and such won't work because they are 32 bit. Not everything has been moved to 64 bit and there are issues with some 32 drivers on a 64 bit system. You only need 64 bit if you want more then 4 gig main memory or if you work with huge datasets. For the desktop there is no real difference in proformance and many fewer problems. I run 64 bit so I know
Also note that since you have multiple CPUs cores the kernel should be SMP if not you are running on one core only.
