Installing Suse 10.2 from external hd
Hi to all of you,
I have already used a linux OS (Mandrake) before a couple of years and now I want to install the Suse 10.2 version. I can't claim that I am really familiar with linux, but I do not also consider myself as a 'newbee'.
At the beginning, I have downloaded the .iso file from the official site, checked the sums with FastSum program (as you propose in the forum) and I found them to be ok. After burning 2 dvd's (really slow speed etc) I began the install process. All worked fine (although I had some problems with the cd-rom modules, but i solved it), but when the 'real' installation began (meaning that the file transfer began), the check sum procedure failed (using both dvd's).
Being really disappointed, I tried to use my external hard disk (as the file there gave me the correct check sums - how can I find out if the dvd's are written ok???).
I booted from the dvd, but gave at the install progress the file in the external hard disk (usb interface - it was found with no problem at all).
The next step is to create the desired partitions, So, I made 3 partitions (swap - root - data partiotion) I wanted at the internal hard disk, and left the next choices by default. These are :
set mount point of /dev/sda1 to /windows/C (my other partition of XP)
set mount point /dev/sdb1 to /windows/D (the external hdd)
Continuing the process, the formatting is ok, but I have the system error -3003 (the device is already mounted) for the external hdd, which I understand, as I already use this device.
What should I do, in order to complete the installation?
Can you give me an advice??
Thanks in advance...
