SUSE 10.2 installaation problems - unable to locate installation media
I'm quite new to the Linux world, and am trying to install SUSE 10.2 on a new machine, with no success. My setup is:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
1GB Memory
320GB SATA2 HDD
Gigabyte 956 MoBo with P965 + ICH8R
GeForce 7600GT 256MB Video
ASUS DVD Burner DRW-1612BL
The HD is partitioned into 2, with an xp partition initially installed.
When I boot from the SUSE DVD, all seems fine, and I get the installation menu onscreen. When I select the installation option, however, after a moment, the system returns that it was either unable to locate the SUSE Installation DVD, or that it was unable to mount the DVD.
I have tried all of the other installation options, including text only, however these just simply hang with a black screen.
I am confident that the DVD device is ok, as it runs perfectly under xp, and also installed Ubuntu last week. I also know that the DVD media is fine, as the disc works perfectly in my Thinkpad, and starts the installation.
Some reading around suggests that there may be an issue with the ICH8R, but I have been unable to find a patch or work around.
Any suggestions?

try 'all-generic-ide" option.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Cheers for the tip D_C, but still no joy. It must be a problem specific to the distro, as I have tried the SUSE 10.3 installation, and that seems to run along perfectly. I guess I will have to give up on 10.2 for the minute and live with the bugs in the new distro!
I have noticed on other boards that other people have run into the same problem, so possibly a work around will will eventually appear.
