Internet Connectivity and SUSE Linux 10.1 OS
Hello folks,
I have a cable modem with a router connecting three computers to the internet. All three computers run Windows, but I decided to try and run Linux on my own personal pc. The intital installation went okay, however there was no Internet Connectivity in the Linux partition. The internet worked fine on Windows. However, after several weeks of trying and tweaking I was finally able to get SuSe Linux 10.1 working.
It's a strange story on how I got it to work..
To run Linux, when I'm in Windows I must physically shut down the power to the computer. Then I restart it booting normally in Linux and Linux internet works perfect. Essentially, my predictiment is that I have to literally crash one system and then turn around and reboot into Linux. What am I missing here? Is there a way that I can easily boot and shutdown and reboot normally to get Linux connectivity to the Internet?
The only other problem at this point...is that the mouse freezes up the system sometimes? Any remedy to keep the mouse from freezing?
Any and all help is most aprreciated!
By way of a footnote or two, I really am enjoying Linux. I use the Gnome desktop and the GAIM Chat/Friends list. It rivals mIRC in all that it can accomplish. Firefox I also like, for its simplicity.
Thanks in Advance,

The network problem sounds like it is harware related. I have known this to happen. Is it a card or off the MB? In either case I'd replace it. If MB then disable in the bios and add a cheap network card, they cost what 10-15 dollars?
the mouse, what kind is it? Is it by any chance a Logitech wireless? I have problems with mine but there is a reset button on the bottom I push the reset then the connect button also on the bottom and I'm back in busness. Also you are not dead if you do lose the mouse. press alt-F1 ( at least in KDE) to get the main menu. Usually log out and back in will set things back. Be sure you got the right setup for your mouse in Yast. If your mouse is not listed try a generic wheel mouse.

Thanks
Dear Gogalthorpe,
Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I see you are from West Virginia--whereabouts? I'm a little east of Pittsburgh, so hello neighbor! Beautiful State! And I enjoy rooting for all the Mountaineers teams except when they are playing Pitt.
I just have an HP mouse that came with the computer....and I tried the ALT route but no luck.
I have a friend who builds computers and I'm just gonna take a print out of your suggestion to him and see if he can install the hardware you talked about. Thanks a milion.
O btw, some folks from my alma mater are planing a 2 day trip to Charleston WV in a few months from now....we have folks coming in from Kentucky, Ohio, MD, and Pennsylvania and Charleston is pretty much the mid point for everyone. If you are familair with Charleston, could you reccomend any resturants or sites to take in?
Keep in touch, and Thanks again,
Joe in Pittsburgh
