    Sound problem?

Hello, I would like to thank everyone for helping me get my OpenSuSe 10.2 box up and running again! Thanks again for all your help.

The problem I'm having is that whenever I am playing an audio stream, such as from a music cd or a web page, if I have another program try and stream music to output to my speakers I get a bunch of error messages that usually says something like

could not open/initialize sound device -> no sound

I'm not sure if this would be a driver problem or not, since SuSe does seem to detecting my media controller which is listed as (keep in mind this is a build in to the board POS) 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High definition audio controller and I actually do hear (very) good sound coming out of my speakers, its just when I try and use two audio streams that I have a bunch of problems.

I look forward to hearing from you all, this is the last thing I need to fix before I can dump windows.

Are your runnig 32 bit or 64 bit?

Also do you have alsa installed? Jack?

There is a problem with some older 32 bit apps or apps the use OSS rather then alsa sharing the sound system on 64 bit OS.

    1)32 bit
2)I have alsa installed, I switched to using alsa...and the problem seems to have gone away, thanks for the advice.

    Glad you got it working.

OSS is the old linux sound system it only allows one program at a time to use the sound.
