    SLES 9 Internet

So, we had a whistle interjet which just failed on us (family of 3)
we have our own domain which we used to use for mail, web, ftp, remote desktop, all of that stuff. when our interjet failed i installed sles 9 on an old computer of mine with 2 network cards (1 port each) in it. when i tried to connect it to modem, it wouldnt even work. i cant get it to connect to the internet any help would be appreciated, ive tried using auto settings, our written down settings from cable company, and the settings on this computer(which is working being plugged into modem). thanks

Does your cable company require authentication?? If it does, you will have to get a linux client to perform the authentication.

If not, you may be able to only connect with 1 mac address.. this can sometimes be resolved (motorolla cable modems) buy turning it off for 20 minutes then turn back on connected to the SLES box.

Find out with ethernet port it is connected to and type dhclient eth<number>. This should give you an external IP address.. let me know if you get this far.

okay so i called cable company and gave them a new mac address to use and to reset whatever we had been using. They did and it is now working. I have a dhcp server running and my workstations (xp) are receiving an ip from it. Obviously, this computers internet works now. I cant seem to get the other computers to go through this one for internet. So, is there an unknown setting (share internet) or something i dont have setup. They also recieve the dns servers i set up but i do not believe they are right because this computer takes 10 seconds to get the real ip of a name(google.com). I think it trys mine, fails, and uses an auto one. Is there logs that would tell me what happens? anyways, i looked online for an setup guide for sles 9 (internet mail ftp web) but didnt find much. I dnt really want to use LTSP because it doesnt have a gui,(for my dad). Anyone got any ideas?
