    problem with clamav and spamassassin

I have the following problem with clamav and spamassassin on suse 10.2

both are installed with no errors from tar.gz after unarchive with perl Makefile.PL -> make -> make install.
after this there is no way i can start clamav or spamassassin. both their daemons aren't running so i can't use these programs. The clamd is nowhere to be found. I belive i am making something wrong during the installation. pls help becouse i;m new at this.

Did you follow the install instructions supplied?

Clamav requires a new usr and group to be created.

if you are not running a server, don't bother installing an antivirus. You can install rkhunter for rootkit protection

I am running a server. I'm trying to integrate them in a mailserver. the MTA program communicates them through a tcp port that is openned by the daemons. I followed every step of the installation and there were no errors. Is there another installation method for suse except tar -> perl -> make install for these programs becouse it seems to be a problem with this one. do i have to sun ./configure with some parameters?

Both are on suss repositories. Note I beleive that Spamassasin is installed by default. I know it is on my system and I never intalled it.

Here is a how to on setting up repositories

Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

    and

    Package Sources/10.2 - openSUSE-Community

I am having the same problem. It tried installing clamav from and the source and rpm but so far I haven't got it working. I can't start it. If you find any solution, could you please post it here?
