SUSE 10.2 change screen resolution ATI?
Looking for a little help with changing my screen's resolution.
Updated 10.2 from 9.3 - smoothly.
Everything works but screen resolution:
Radeon XPRESS 200 5954 (PCIE)
Samsung SyncMaster 793MB
YAST>Harware>Graphics Card and Monitor gives me a yellow warning triangle message with an escalation "Please note: The configuration is Framebuffer based and your system does not support changes for resolution and/or color settings"
Noticed some postings mentioning problems with ATI but could not find a posting with info that would solve problem.
Guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks JCB

Researching ??
Researching on my own I found:
YaST -> Software -> Change installation Source -> Add
Protocol: http
Server Name: : www2.ati.com
Directory on Server: suse/10.2
YaST -> Software -> Install and Delete Software
Installed the ATI/fglrx driver
NO fix
I also found the suggestion below but need help translating the info:
Edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (# sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf) and remove all 1600×1200 references (or the offending resolution) under the Section “Screen”

Open a console log to root by typeing
su
then the root password (note the password will not echo to the screen!!!)
change directories to /etc/X11
cd /etc/x11
open the xorg.conf file in the editor of your choice I like nano because it is simple
nano xorg.conf
in the text file you will see several sections find the one labeld screen
this will among other things list the resolutions the screen may run in.
Rather then delete anything remark out the line your want to change by placing a pound sign # as the first charater then reproduce the line with your changes. If something does not work you can the always go back to the old version.
log out of the GUI then log back in the new settings should then be in effect. Note you may need to reboot
I don't understand this framebuffer problem I have a machine under my care and feeding that seems to have the same problem. I have not dug into it yet beacuse I too could not find out much about it. Let use know how it goes

Hi Gogalthorp,
Thanks for your help - it did not help.
I am downloading 10.2 64bit for a clean install. Should have used 64 bit originally - it may correct problem.

You will have less problems with 32bit.

You need to start a new thread for this in the Ubuntu form. This is the Suse form.
