OpenSuSe 10.2 network problem
Hi All,
I have been wanting to try Linux system for a long time. I consulted my friend who is some what well versed in Linux and he suggested OpenSuSe10.2 or Ubuntu. But I found that since OpenSuSe10.2 has more applications inbuilt, I went for that.
However, after a clean install I can't seem to change my desktop manager from GNOME to KDE. In addition the internet is also not accessible. When I open FF and try to browse, I get the message that the internet is not connected or something. I went to the control panel equivalent in OpenSuSe and tried fixing the solution. My ISP is DHCP enabled. I also tried giving the proper IP configuration as well. However, nothing seems to be working. Can anyone help me how to fix the network problem and also try to update using YaST.
I also have a small doubt whether OpenSuSe10.2 is the right choice for me, since I recently saw an article on Ubuntu being the best for beginners and they have also launched Ubuntu Studio.
Thanks....
Regards,
Karthi

1) Did you install both KDE and Gnome? Only Gnome is installed as default. You can install KDE now if you wish via YAST - Software - Software managment-packages-KDE
2) How are you connected to the internet? Cable modem, DSL, etc., Do you have a router or firewall? Wireless?
3) the new Ubuntu (gnome) and Kubuntu (KDE) are reported to be very good. You don't get as many applications out of the box but installing them is not a big problem once you know how....and have a Internet connection
