    Network card issues

    Dear All,

    I am new to SUSE, and want me be good learner of SUSE,i am trying to make a Lan that is connecting to PC (Point to Point ).But the problem that i am facing right now is my netwok card is not detected, even i configured it during installation and it shows fine there, i gave it IP manually.But after the installation when i tried to connect the LAN cable it doesn't show any network adapter.even i again tried to configured via commad line (Netwok card, network interface) and defined route, but it doesn't works.


    please can any one help me out and write me the exect configuration.

    What version of SUSE are you using? If you have network manager I would recommend enabling that. It will sort out point to point networking automatically.

    Are you using a cross wired cable? If you are patching from one PC directly to another you cannot use standard cables unless you involve a hub or router in between.

    Thanx for the reply dear.....

    Well i am using SUSE linux Enterprise server 10.0.i already enabled the network manager, and trying to configure it form there,it seems to me woking fine, i mean i am able to set IP address, network mask and default gateway.but it wont help.

    I also tried to connect directly both the PC by cross over cable,and also through stright cable by switch,also tested the cables, still it wont help me. What exectly hepped it doesn't show me any local netwok adepter on status bar.

    It works out....

    Hello dear

    I sort out the problem, what was wrong that, network card configured as external, and for connecting to the eth we have to change it to internal.Now can you help me out how can i use ssh, if i want to connect to the other system remotly(remote shell).


    Please could u help me with the exect configuration step by step
