    Question OpenSuse 10.3 Problems

I have just downloaded OpenSuse 10.3 Alpha 4, intending to install it on a virtual machine. I accidentally ran the Instlinux thing in Vista, which I dual boot OpenSuse 10.2 with. After I ran the thing, when I boot up, the following happens.

The Grub boot screen appears, and I select Windows.

The Windows boot screen appears, asking me whether I want to boot Vista or the 10.3 installer.

There are no problems with this second menu appearing, but it is very annoying. To remove the 10.3 entry, I presume that I will have to edit the BOOT.INI file, but how do I do this?

    Thanks in advance,

    mooseguy

I dont know much abotu Vista, yet. I do know that in XP your went Start>Run> type msconfig

Check all boot paths in boot.ini and make sure its valid, delete the 10.3 entry. Reboot and you're good to go.

Apparently boot.ini is no longer relevant. You use a command line tool call BCDEdit.exe

Thanks. I will try that program. Also, OpenSuse has made a file with a .MBR filename extension in my C drive. Does this have anything to do with it?

i never heard about this file. did you try to open it?
you have to remove GRUB, reinstall Vista BootLoader and reset dual boot from scratch.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Surely there must be a less drastic way than that? It's only an entry in the Vista Bootloader.

MicroSoft has changed Boot Loader Configuration and Tweaking procedure. there isn't any boot.ini file now unless you dual boot Vista with XP.
Vista Boot Loader installation is very easy.

yes. VistaBootPro is best. i used it a few times.
you can fix Vista Boot Loader through Installation DVD also.
boot up from Vista Installation DVD and select Repair your Computer.(its below Install Icon).select Windows Vista and select Command Prompt.
    execute this
    Code:
    bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    bootrec.exe /fixboot
close command prompt window and restart.
