    help new to linux runnning apps

    I have suse linux 9.2 up and running ok and i know how to with most of it.The problem i have is that i cannot figure out to run the apps ounce i download them. All i can figure is i have to use the commmand line to run the things????? I have sqishdot, shorewall and one other app,they are in the sys in my doc's....i can get to them but what do i do.....

    Anyway please help.....

    check this tutorial on How to Install Packages in Linux. Package entry will appear in Menu after proper installation.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Besides what devils_casper said; if you are curious and if the apps don't show up in your panel (which they usually do if they are well installed), well, you can navigate to the folder where the app is installed, you open it and inside you will find a 'run' file. You double click and you normally are presented with a dialog that gives you 3 options: 'Run In Terminal', 'Display', and 'Run?. You choose 'Run' and if the app is well installed, well, it will run.
