nothing... GRUB Menu will have choice to boot up earlier version Kernel too.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Last time I upgraded the kernel it didn't. I have noticed that with the default installation kernel of opensuse ( 2.6.18.2-34) the multimedia keys of hp dv6397ea are recognized and function really good. After upgrading to 2.6.28.8 they stopped working.

Once, when I updated my kernel GRUB got completely messed up, and I had to do a complete reinstall.

I always make an image of my partitions after installing. It only takes 3 or 4 minutes to create the image and I can restore the image in about 4 or 5 minutes if I should screw anything up.
You could consider using ghost4linux, partimage, norton ghost, or acronis trueimage to do the job.oz

The best way is to make an image of your hard disk installation.
I have used Clonezilla / DRBL in conjunction with GParted.
For a how-to have a look here.

Hi, johnroberts - your link for Clonezilla in the HowTo doesn't work for me. At any rate, Clonezilla looks interesting, and I'll be checking it out myself:

Hmmm...
this is odd indeed. Please try to copy the link manually:

Otherwise, if it still does not work, try these two ones (they are the same...):
