    Smile Something about glib

    Dear brothers:

I'm a newbie of Linux. I wanna to have a friendly mp3 player in SUSE. So I try to build the source code of XMMS. So I was told to install glib first. Then I get the source code and build it as the "INSTALL" said, such as configure, make ,etc. But after I install it to /usr/local/exec(my configure exec_prefix as it),I can't find the "glib-configure". Someone can tell me the reason and give me some guidance?Thank you.

Yes forget about installing source. Use Yast to install. You will need to add some source URLs

    Package Sources/10.2 - openSUSE-Community

once you know how to set up sources add some of these

    Package Sources/10.2 - openSUSE-Community

Packman should have all you need for multi media

here is one more to guide you to exactly what you need

    Dear gogalthorp:

Thank you for your kindly help and your guidance is very valuable and helphelpful for me.But now I have some problem with YaST that after I built glib the YaST doesn't work.In the user mode, after I clicked the YaST, I was prompted to input the root password. But after I did it, nothing happened.I can't run the YaST anymore. Then I tried to execute "yast" in terminal and get the YaST in terminal. But this one is unstable and always hang there.
By the way I still want to build the source code. I'm a student.I'm very interested in Open source. I want to know more about the linux, about gnu, about very thing open to me. But still, from bottom of my heart, thank you.

Get smart it may help to get you out of you problems with Yast.
You can use it maybe to revert back to a copy of glib that is compatible with your current version of Yast.

SMART Package Manager - SUSE Wiki

You have now learned that more then one program may depend on a given library and changing the version of that library can cause other programs to break. This is why there are installation managers to sniff out all those dependencies.
