Hello All,

I have been given the task of upgrading a server for one of our offices. Am new to this job and not particually experienced in Linux administration. New server has arrived and open SuSe 10.2 has been installed on it. Now, I figured the easiest way to migrate the server would be to tar everything up in /etc and /home so that all the settings for the network, SAMBA shares, CUPS server and all user accounts etc are kept, and then just transport and unzip onto the new server through a USB pen. This all works fine, but seems to overwrite some vital system files; Yast stops working saying its missing some files and the whole thing doesnt boot up again after a restart. I think this may be because the old server is running SuSe 9.3 (I could be wrong) and there are some file conflicts, so is there an easy way to copy all nessecary files and folders that wont interfere with the important system files?

Sorry if thats a bit long winded and doesnt make much sense, but any help would be appriciated.
