How to turn off the synaptic touchpad.

My wife uses this lap top and the closest she gets to cussing is when she is typing away and accidentally hits the touchpad and the software does something unexpected...

She has a wireless mouse that she uses all the time and we have no need to have the touchpad enabled.

I would appreciate it if someone can tell me how to disable the touchpad?

    Many thanks

Right click on KSynaptics in the panel and select configure.
At the top on the General tab there is a option to turn it off.

    Tried that, does not respond.

The check remains in the box, and the touchpad still works
