    Exclamation Software Management Giving Trouble!

    Hello all,
the software mgmt tool in yast in my laptop is not fetching the info files from the installation server repositories. i'm sitting behind a proxy and the proxy configuration tool says that proxy settings work successfully. but still i get error 407 (proxy authentication required) when trying to start software mgmt. the detail of error looks like this:

Curl error for: http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...irectory.yast: Error code: HTTP response: 407 Error message: The requested URL returned error: 407

Curl error for: http://172.31.101.101/suse10.2/cd1/m...irectory.yast: Error code: HTTP response: 407 Error message: The requested URL returned error: 407

i have installed opensuse 10.2 using an http server in my campus (ip 172.31.101.101) which is also configured as no proxy domain, still i get the http 407 error for that domain! i have added the pakman repository (Index of /) and VideoLan source (Index of /pub/videolan/vlc...) in my installation source, apart from the default opensuse update url, and the source url from my installation (172.31.101.101). none of the repositories can be accessed!

i also tried adding the repositories manually again, but the the installation source gives this:
Unable to create installation source from url: (URL)
Details: Unknown source type for (URL).
    Try Again?

Please help me, i'm in desperate need to install several packages and i cant do it!

I'd suggest checking with your firewall team and see if they can see it blocking any out going or incoming traffic.

Can you get to them via a browser? Are you connected to the internet at all?

well, i could have configured it myself had it been a firewall issue. But sadly its not.

And yes i can get the repository index with a browser (opera, firefox...) and yes i think if i can post this reply on linuxforums.org forums, i am connected to internet (hope you dont mind sarcasm)

see... i posted that reply, i'm surely connected to internet!

ps: sorry for the delayed reply, but i would also like to tell you something, one day when i came to work, my laptop suddenly started accessing the local repository, from where i actually installed it using an http server (the 172.31.*.* intranet machine, for which no proxy is required.) But it still does not access the online repositories, gives the http 407 error!

Well you could have using another machine or dual booting and using windoz to post here.

You did not say what version of Suse?

have you followed the instructions here?

    Package Sources/10.2 - openSUSE-Community

    Have you tried smart??
